Our Purpose
Sea Change is a 501(c)3 non-profit Recovery Community Organization (RCO) with a mission to #CrushTheStigma of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and what it means to be in recovery. We combine evidence-based practices with healthy lifestyle approaches to recovery. With compassion, we support both individuals and their concerned families, friends and loved ones through private 1:1 meetings, various support groups, direct outreach, special events, physical activities and community organizing.
We believe in all pathways of recovery. We fully support harm reduction and MAT (medication-assisted treatment). Research shows that a combination of medication and person-centered support can successfully treat these disorders. Many people struggling with the disease of addiction say that MAT has helped them sustain their recovery. Through peer support services, both online and in-person: we make prevention possible, we help survivors heal, we thrive in our lives and we give back to our community.
While we are based in Southern Ocean County, we serve anyone in New Jersey who reaches out for help.

Our Story
Long before Sea Change was founded in November 2020 by Elizabeth Burke Beaty of Long Beach Island, NJ had been supporting her locals who were battling substance use disorder. As a practicing Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) and Life Coach with 31 years of personal recovery and a recognized leader in her community since 2012, Elizabeth had been witnessing community members suffering, dying, and grieving losses of their loved ones. She also has a background in entrepreneurship, building three businesses as well as professional experience inside state-supported non-profit organizations. Lastly, with lived experience as a Foster Parent in the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency, essentially living inside families, she has directly witnessed the unnecessary suffering due to the opioid crisis and mental health concerns. A Health Crisis
More than 107,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021, setting another tragic U.S. record.
Substance use disorders and overdose deaths have been consistently rising. In 2020, 3,051 New Jersey residents lost their lives to overdose. In 2021, we lost 3,124 valuable human lives. And as of March 31, 2022, 854 people have already died due to drug related deaths. Our state is currently on track for a record number of fatalities related to alcohol, opioids, and other drugs. We have all been hit hard.by the overdose epidemic and thousands of residents are suffering in silence and currently underserved. How can we not address this?!
At Sea Change we recognize the need for advocacy efforts and direct services for individuals and their immediate loved ones and that is why we established the first RCO in Southern Ocean County, NJ.
As of March 2022, we have served over 1,300 individuals through our various services and radical compassion and we are just getting started!
